- History
Dawn James-Serra & Associates, P.A. was founded by Dawn James-Serra, CPA. Dawn graduated from University of Maryland at Baltimore in May of 1981, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology. She immediately began working in a microbiology lab. With a thirst for knowledge, she began taking accounting courses and one day found herself in a position to sit for the CPA exam. At the time, the exam seemed like a natural progression. She took the exam in May 1985, and passed the first time. It was never really planned; it just happened.
During that same time, Dawn's personal CPA was starting his own firm. Although considering a position with one of the "Big 8" firms, Dawn decided that the small firm was where her heart was. It was an incredible experience to learn to build a business and also help others run their businesses.
After almost four years of working with individuals and small businesses, Dawn decided to move on to a larger regional firm to expand her tax knowledge. This firm allowed her to develop and expand her tax expertise, as well as, master larger businesses.
In 1996, Dawn decided to start her own firm, geared to those who needed guidance and could prosper from her expertise and insight. Dawn started her own firm with no clients, and through the years, the firm has grown primarily through referrals.
Dawn prides herself on her commitment to her clients and it is reflected by the number of new clients we receive through other client referrals!
